Edward Beeley
MISE (Maersk International Shippping Education) Trainee at Norfolkline
Ed joined Norfolkline after graduating with an Engineering degree from the University of Durham (UK) in 2008.
"After finishing my Masters I wanted to work internationally and learn about business but also to stay in touch with real-world issues. A career in the international shipping industry offered great opportunities to learn alongside the chance to be part of something that affects literally everybody’s life on a daily basis."
During his training Ed has had the opportunity to experience Operational practices in our Dover office - one of Europe’s busiest ports – and gain Corporate insight in the Netherlands.
"Working with colleagues from across Europe, traveling almost every week between the UK and France, trusted with the responsibility to manage important projects myself –it was an exciting 8 months in Dover!"
"Most recently, on a posting to our Netherlands Group HQ, I’ve become acquainted with the latest IT developments in e-business. Working on the Group’s websites, Intranet, and our cutting-edge business Portals has given me a real insight into both our business and the effects of modern technology on how we work now and in the future, not to mention daily contact with senior management."
Now mid-way through his traineeship Ed believes he made the right choice in choosing Norfolkline.
"The organization is based on consolidated values and attitudes towards its employees and business partners. It represents a ‘school’ for both professional and personal growth. The truly international aspect of my job, together with the opportunity to acknowledge the different components of the business, is guaranteed by continuous rotations amongst the two distinct divisions placed in around ten different countries."
Looking ahead, Ed sees a bright future with Norfolkline:
"I was attracted to the training programme offered by A.P. Moller Maersk via Norfolkline because of its uniqueness and depth compared to other ‘International Training Programmes’ available in the market. I've already suggested this experience to my friends, and I would do the same with any graduate seeking a meaningful, exciting and one-of-a-kind job experience."
